  • The Jordan Baseball Diamond Club will host a candlelight vigil on Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Jordan Baseball Field to honor former coach Tony Dimitri (who taught at local high schools) after he died in a side-by-side Utility Task Vehicle accident.  WTVM
  • Children Palace Learning Center is asking local volunteers to help clean up after a fire. The center plans a cleanup effort soon at its facility to restore its space.  WTVM
  • A 10-year-old launched Love Like Cora to assist struggling community members in Columbus. The initiative aims to offer ongoing local support + may expand its efforts with upcoming community events.  WTVM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A Georgia economist in Columbus said slow growth and ongoing inflation will likely affect the local economy in 2026. His forecast may help businesses prepare for the coming challenges.  Columbus CEO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Roxann Poole, a Columbus State robotics engineering graduate student, began her internship at Pratt and Whitney's Columbus Engine Center where she applies classroom skills to real-world aerospace challenges (mechanical design and programming) and shows how higher education connects with local industry.  Columbus CEO
  • Rainey McCullers School of the Arts in Columbus launched Georgia’s first comprehensive music technology production program today, teaching students to create beats and operate sound boards and requiring auditions for enrollment. Community leaders hope the program — seen as a promising alternative to sports — will expand to more schools.  WTVM
  • A new music production class set to help local students learn sound skills will start soon downtown, offering hands-on training for aspiring musicians.  WTVM
