COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Exchange Club celebrated Black History Month today in Columbus with a focus on how Black history is American history and the role journalists + media have in making today's history. Club leaders also seek new members to continue its 70-year mission, including fighting child sex abuse.  WTVM
  • WTVM is holding its annual Blanket Drive drop-off event today, giving residents one final chance to donate blankets to support Hope Harbour.  WTVM
  • The 2026 Blanket Drive delivered donated blankets to Hope Harbour today; Columbus volunteers collected + distributed donations to supply local families with winter warmth.  WTVM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Chattahoochee Valley held its Youth of the Year event Wednesday, recognizing community leadership and announcing finalists including Breyana Anyaegbunam (18), a G.W. Carver High School senior who has grown more confident over eight years at the club.  WTVM
  • Columbus State University will host its Legacy Celebration banquet on Wednesday, March 25 at the Cunningham Center to honor campus and community leaders, with keynote T. Dallas Smith speaking. Online award nominations are open until Feb. 20 and tickets are on sale until March 6.  Columbus State University
  • More than half of this year's Muscogee County Teacher of the Year honorees are Columbus State grads, and the district-level winner will be announced on Thursday, May 7 at the Columbus Convention & Trade Center.   • EMA Director Chance Corbett met with Derek today to outline key severe weather preparedness measures (including emergency kit tips and local alert systems) so Columbus residents can protect themselves during storms.  WTVM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local experts stress the warning signs of teen dating violence and advise parents to watch for sudden changes in behavior among teenagers. An event to teach healthy relationship tips is scheduled on Feb. 19 at Franck Chester Recreation Center.  WTVM
