  • Feeding the Valley Foodbank has opened its new Neighbor Market to offer affordable groceries and fresh produce for local families in Columbus. The market aims to support community nutrition and access to quality food starting today.  WTVM

CULTURE NEWS

  • WTVM is highlighting locally owned Black businesses on its morning shows this month (Black History Month) to celebrate local enterprise in Columbus. The feature lets viewers learn about the community’s rich legacy.  WTVM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mrs. Hallock's gift to Columbus State University has funded a new Distinguished Lecture series in foreign policy and military history (boosting academic programs). The series will bring top experts to engage students and community members, building on her longstanding Hallock Endowment legacy.  Columbus State University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Columbus Consolidated Government has partnered with The Landfill Group to build a renewable natural gas facility at Pinegrove MSW Landfill (9000 Pinegrove Way). Construction began in 2025 and the plant is expected to be complete in spring to process methane for renewable energy sales.  WTVM
  • Staff Sgt. Michael Ollis, a Fort Benning graduate who sacrificed his life in Afghanistan saving a Polish soldier, is to be posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor soon, with his family set to receive it at the White House (a 5K tribute is scheduled for June 14 in his honor).  WTVM

  • Local leaders and advocates urge families to check in on older adults after the Guthrie incident (they suggest following basic safety steps) to help keep seniors safe in Columbus.  WTVM
