COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A memorial service honoring retired Maj. Gen. William Steele was held today at the National Infantry Museum, where community members reflected on his decades of service.  WTVM
  • The Barbour County NAACP hosted a banquet focused on strengthening democracy and increasing voter participation after Alabama ranked low. The organization is pushing for year-round civic engagement to grow local involvement.  WTVM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Kombat Zone, a Black-owned business, is using fun competitions to bring residents together during Black History Month in Columbus.  WTVM
  • The Columbus Museum hosted a Black History Month event over the weekend, where young visitors learned about celebrated Black artists and created their own masterpieces (a hands-on way to honor cultural history).  WTVM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Columbus State University is hosting the 2026 Georgia STEM Day on March 14 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Coca-Cola Space Science Center, where middle and high school students can join free hands-on sessions and meet college instructors and industry professionals.  Columbus State University
  • Columbus Technical College hosted its first GOAL and EAGLE Recognition and Scholarship Brunch on Tuesday, Feb. 17, honoring May Saysombath and Marcus Thomas for academic excellence and perseverance. SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, the Carver High Tigers clinched back-to-back state championships and held a community block party (honoring their storied legacy) that united local fans.  WTVM
  • Bobby and Carolyn Wright from Central High were inducted into the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame, honoring their 1,271 combined career wins. The duo has long led local athletics and earned community admiration.  WTVM
