COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents and local leaders debated a housing project near the wildlife sanctuary as concerns over environmental impact were voiced. Officials may schedule further meetings to review proposals before any development begins.  WSB-TV
  • Residents at Cobb apartments say trash collection has not occurred in months even though tenants continue to pay full rent. They are urging management to address the service problem promptly.  WSB-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local gas stations report that prices have increased today as global oil costs rise after bombs dropped in the Middle East, meaning drivers will pay more at the pump.  WSB-TV
  • From Friday, Feb. 28 to Monday, March 2, gas prices across Georgia rose by about 1.6 cents as experts linked the increase to global tensions from the Iran conflict (with Alabama seeing a 0.8 cent rise).  WTVM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Muscogee County School District opened online registration for current and new students for the upcoming school year and will keep it open until classes begin. Parents can visit the district’s website or parent portal to update records and submit required documents, as announced Monday.  WTVM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Columbus-area military experts have warned that the U.S.-Iran conflict may become more complex and affect local military families, plus a retired Army Ranger and a Columbus State University historian noted Fort Benning continues training soldiers.  WTVM

SPORTS NEWS

  • 13-year-old powerlifter Nash 'Big Nash' Earwood broke state records for bench press, deadlift, squat, and total weight at the Georgia Powerlifting State Championships in Dalton, and he will compete in nationals in Chicago in June to become the nation’s strongest + his coach Terrence Flowers praised his hard work at 4.0 Fitness.  WTVM
