BUSINESS NEWS

  • The SBA will host a series of online training events for small business owners from March 17 to April 24 to cover digital marketing, credit building, woman-owned business certification, co-branding, and government procurement—webinars are offered by partners like SCORE North Metro Atlanta and the Small Business Development Center.  Columbus CEO

CRIME NEWS

  • A Columbus murder suspect, 49-year-old David Harrison, was arrested Tuesday in LaGrange after officers found drugs—20 grams of crack and 7 ounces of marijuana—and two guns at a house while he was on bond for a murder and assault case.  WTVM
  • The Columbus Police are investigating a shooting on Woodruff Farm Rd that left two people dead just before 5:50 p.m. + the Violent Crimes Unit is leading the probe with no arrests made so far.  WTVM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Columbus State University use The Arden to showcase their creative writing talents with support from faculty+Professor Lamb. The student-run magazine won second place at the Southern Literary Festival and will attend the April event to feature more student voices.  Columbus State University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Daniel Wyatt from the UGA Institute of Government found that flooding at Lawson Army Airfield made Laundry Creek a hazard and worked with UGA engineers to plan a restoration that saves money—efforts that support military readiness at Fort Moore. A new bridge design for Garnsey Range also cuts costs and will be built soon to fix erosion issues.  Columbus CEO
  • Columbus city officials announced John Anker will fill the seat vacated by councilor Judy Thomas—he will join the council to represent her district.  Columbus CEO

SPORTS NEWS

  • Columbus State University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams earned spots in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament. The men, seeded No. 1, will host games at the Lumpkin Center from March 15 to 18 for the first time in 22 years—while the women, seeded fifth, will start play in Dahlonega on March 14 at 7:30 p.m.  Columbus CEO
