- ➤ Two public meetings were held Monday to address concerns over Columbus City Council’s vote to appoint John Anker as a replacement for retiring Judy Thomas—local groups including the NAACP and church leaders urged the mayor to investigate a possible open meetings act violation and call a special election. - ➤ Liberty Theatre, the first and only African American theater in Columbus built in 1925, turns 100 this year and will host centennial events after a news conference on Thursday — the City spent millions to restore the theatre — and the board said the plans will honor its history. News 3
