  • Chewacla State Park unveiled a new event center today to host public events (including festivals and meetings) that will bring the community together.  WTVM
  • Uptown Columbus is preparing to host a Spring food truck festival later this month — local vendors will offer a mix of eats for families and food lovers. The event promises a variety of flavors and a fun community gathering.  WTVM

  • Palmetto Moon will join Columbus Park Crossing with a grand opening planned soon — adding a new option for local shoppers.  Columbus CEO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dee Armstrong, a longtime WTVM anchor whose career spans over four decades serving Columbus viewers, was inducted into the Georgia Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in Atlanta — she thanked her mother while accepting the honor.  WTVM
  • Uptown Columbus will host its 15th annual food truck festival today and Sunday (11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.), featuring over 30 food trucks, live music, and kids’ activities. Tickets cost $5 with free entry for children 10 and under, and proceeds fund future free events.  WTVM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A national study ranks Georgia as the 5th safest school bus environment using federal data from 2019 to 2023; the report shows that 843,000 students ride daily with a low risk score of 8 (thanks to strong infrastructure and fewer crashes than neighboring states).  Columbus CEO
  • On Match Day 2026, Piedmont welcomed 73 new medical graduates into residency programs at Athens Regional, Columbus Regional, and Macon Medical Center with training starting this summer. The system also announced a program launching in 2027 to add 386 residents and fellows annually (aiming to boost local care).  Columbus CEO
  • Columbus State University honored 13 campus and community leaders at its Legacy Celebration Banquet on Wednesday, Mar. 25. The event recognized achievements in civic engagement, cultural impact and outreach — with keynote speaker T. Dallas Smith urging students to build lasting local legacies.  Columbus CEO
  • A freshman art major, Cora Pearl James, turned a neglected library loading dock into a vibrant mural during spring break at Columbus State University. Organized by staff (including faculty and communication experts), the project brought together students and employees to bring a creative vision to life as a campus asset.  Columbus State University
  • Jazzy Juniors Girl Scout Troop 50387 built a website on Mar. 27 to help young students improve reading and math after noticing a local literacy gap. The project will offer new early learning support to Columbus (community effort).  WTVM

  • Tyfin and other adoptable pets are waiting at Paws Humane Society for families to find a new companion. Local residents are invited to visit during regular hours to meet these friendly animals.  WTVM
