- ➤ A south Columbus thrift store uses all its proceeds to buy food for St. Anne’s food bank and help over 500 families each month—its Torch Hill Road location is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. WTVM
- ➤ Safe Kids Columbus and the Firearm Safety Committee will host a free lunch and learn event on April 24 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Piedmont Columbus Regional Conference Center—attendees will receive a personal gun lock box if they join the safety session, sign a waiver, and register online by April 18. - ➤ Local groups have launched WTVM's Spring Into Action Food Drive to collect non-perishable food items for Feeding the Valley Food Bank and Food Bank of East Alabama until April 17. Donors can drop off items at designated sponsor sites and at a one-day event on April 17 from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. WTVM

- ➤ A deputy with the Muscogee County Sheriff’s office was arrested on April 1 after a months-long probe found he brought illegal items to inmates, and he now faces seven felony charges—violating his oath, giving forbidden items, crossing the guard line, and possessing drugs with intent to distribute. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Doyle and Nancy Register, longtime local church musicians and mentors, plan to create the Nancy and Doyle Register Music Scholarship Endowment to support financially challenged music students at Columbus State University's Schwob School of Music.
