- ➤ Brothers Matt, Cody, and Bryce Jordan from the Boy Scouts were named Piedmont Columbus Regional’s First Friday Heroes for April after Cody spotted a brush fire early in March near the Silos at Conway neighborhood off Wire Road in Auburn and alerted his older brothers who then called 911. A ceremony is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT at Auburn Fire and EMS Station 1—commending their quick action during the incident. Columbus CEO

- ➤ Former police officer Matthew Collins Jr. and his father, Matthew Collins Sr. (aged 29 and 58), died when an EF-1 tornado hit Bull Creek Golf Course on Sunday as 90 mph winds snapped a tree that fell on them. WTVM
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Benjamin Caleb Corbett admitted to shooting Douglas Drumm (45) and Amber Drumm (44) during a Sunday afternoon double shooting on April 6 on Patricia Drive in Phenix City and he was taken into custody and charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count for possession of a firearm by a person not allowed to have one. - ➤ Columbus State University partnered with Harding University on April 7 to offer students a direct path to a Pharm.D. program after finishing specific prerequisite courses. - ➤ Jerry Powell retired Monday morning after a 64-year career at Fort Benning, having spent 22 years working with TYA contractors in roles from communications to infantry training.
