- ➤ Rev. Richard Jesse is preparing a community plan to pair with the city’s effort to revitalize the historic Liberty District in Columbus. He said the plan will help preserve the district’s history while inviting future growth. WTVM
- ➤ RiverCenter will host a Hard Hat Silent Film Event on Friday, May 2 to honor crews building the new Judicial Center — guests can watch Buster Keaton’s One Week at 11:30 a.m. with live music from Ron Carter before joining a group photo and enjoying a complimentary hot dog lunch provided by Gilbane Construction. - ➤ Backstage compiled a list of movies and TV shows holding casting calls in Columbus and nearby areas — the list shows role descriptions, hourly pay rates, and casting locations for both short films and feature films. WSB-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Columbus State University’s Center for Accommodation & Access helps students with disabilities by offering tailored classroom, housing & testing support that meets each student’s needs. The center works with faculty & campus departments to set up individual plans that help students succeed. Columbus State University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ In March, the military base officially changed its name to Ft. Benning — the change was marked by a formal ceremony held on base. Military officials led the event and confirmed the new designation. WTVM
- ➤ The Columbus Consolidated Government and Columbus 250 committee will hold a press conference at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 18, at the City Service Center, 3111 Citizens Way — marking the launch of the city’s role in America’s 250th birthday celebration. Historical reenactors portraying founding fathers will join the event — adding a living history element to the festivities. WTVM

- ➤ The Carver High School Tigers celebrated their 2024 state championship season with a ring ceremony after winning 52-14 over Burke County. Coach Pierre Coffey thanked the community and said he will aim for another ring ceremony next season—fueling hope for continued success. WTVM
