  • The Piedmont Classic at the Country Club of Columbus brings golfers, tennis players & pickleball players together for its 31st year to raise funds for the John B. Amos Cancer Center and Bill and Olivia Amos Children’s Hospital.  WTVM
  • Today, Georgia Cities Week kicks off with a picnic-style lunch and learn at the Columbus Trade Center where attendees enjoyed a meal and venue tour; the celebration continues with a litter cleanup, scavenger challenge, and more events later this week.  WTVM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Key Elementary has named veteran educator Dr. Draveious Hurston‑White as its new principal — following Dr. Jackie Flakes’ retirement.  WTVM
  • The North Columbus Rotary Club hosted its annual Fred Kirby Student Awards Ceremony at Green Island Country Club, honoring 26 high school seniors for top SAT scores. The event featured local academic achievement — a tradition that promotes community involvement in education.  WTVM
  • The Korean Institute at Columbus State will host its inaugural Korea-Georgia Dialogue on May 20 at the Cunningham Conference Center (registration ends May 15) where experts discuss defense partnerships, economic innovation, Korean culture and political diplomacy. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia DOT is joining National Work Zone Awareness Week from April 20 to 24 to remind drivers to slow down and obey work zone rules during roadway projects around Columbus. Commissioner McMurry urged motorists to adopt safe habits and follow posted signs (key for protecting crews and preventing accidents).  Columbus CEO

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The closed Winn-Dixie in Ladonia will soon be replaced by a new self-storage facility that aims to boost local business. Construction plans have yet to be finalized.  WTVM

  • Cupid will headline the halftime show at the Columbus Civic Center on Friday, April 24 to honor first responders as the Lions face the Wheeling Miners with kickoff at 7 p.m.  WTVM
