- ➤ Phoebe Putney Health System was named to Forbes' America's Best Employers 2025 list by Statista and ranked as the third best midsize employer in Georgia. The group said its 5,500 workers help build a strong work environment and expects the award will boost hiring for both clinical & non-clinical jobs. News 3

- ➤ Columbus Police are searching for missing 12-year-old Jeremiah Simmons—he was last seen wearing grey shorts and no shirt near the 700 block of Andrea Drive around 9:15 p.m. on April 24. WTVM
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce published its fourth report on how the global trade war is impacting Georgia’s service economy—highlighting challenges like digital service taxes, bans on public procurement, disruptions at ports, and stricter licensure requirements while urging local companies to boost compliance and form new alliances. The report also notes that service industries employ more than 84% of private sector non-farm workers statewide, including key providers in Columbus. Columbus CEO
- ➤ In March, Columbus recorded a 4.2 percent unemployment rate, unchanged from February but higher than 3.8 percent a year ago. The labor force grew by 590 to 129,121 while overall jobs increased by 300 to 122,500 and employed residents reached 123,656—showing gradual job market gains. Columbus CEO

- ➤ The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is set to mark 50 years of West Point Dam and Powerhouse on Friday, June 13 at Hardley Creek Recreation Area with free admission. The event will also waive fees at West Point Lake day-use parks from June 13 to June 15—organizers invite those with historical photos of the dam's construction to share memorabilia—adding a meaningful tribute to its legacy. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown has been designated as a level III neonatal care facility by the Department of Public Health — in collaboration with the American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The hospital’s on-site review confirmed its Miracle NICU meets advanced standards to care for high-risk newborns from 21 counties. Columbus CEO
- ➤ Burger King on 3520 Macon Road scored a 90 after an inspection noted violations such as an insect on the kitchen floor, missing hair restraints, and a hand sink placed next to a 3-compartment sink without a hand drying station—staff were told to contact pest control within 72 hours. The Freaky Fries food truck, owned by Frank and Savannah Stewart, has maintained a perfect 100 on every health inspection since opening in 2022, and several Fountain City restaurants also earned top marks. - ➤ Residents can drop off unused prescription and over the counter drugs today at the Columbus Health Department at 5601 Veterans Parkway — the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office will receive them from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Narcan nasal spray will also be available and a similar event is scheduled for October.
