- ➤ Delta’s Annual 'Jet Drag' raised funds for the American Cancer Society at a local event (supporting cancer research) that united community supporters. WSB-TV
- ➤ The Salvation Army of Columbus opened its Center of Hope today on 2nd Avenue to offer emergency housing and support for families with children. The shelter provides 17 apartments (serving about 60 families each year) to help address poverty. WTVM

- ➤ Gigi’s Cupcakes — a long-time bakery in The Landings on Airport Thruway — is up for sale after nearly 14 years of serving Columbus. Owner Patrick Cooper said the sale comes after a family tragedy, as his wife was killed in a school bus crash last fall. Columbus CEO
- ➤ Columbus' longtime Smokey Bones restaurant closed abruptly + its chain reportedly shut down all its locations. WTVM
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Jeff Foxworthy, known for 41 years in comedy, will perform Friday evening at RiverCenter in downtown Columbus (he recently wrapped his final comedy special set for release this summer), promising a clean show with his signature redneck humor. WTVM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Georgia State Senator Ed Harbison, the longest-serving senator, will deliver his insights on civic leadership at Columbus State University’s spring commencements on Friday, May 15. The ceremonies will take place at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center (free parking available) with guests welcome. Columbus CEO
- ➤ The Georgia Department of Education partnered with the Institute for Self-Directed Learning to launch an initiative helping local districts design school models that boost student engagement and community connection, and the first cohort (10 districts including Henry County Schools) will develop proposals and receive peer feedback in coming months.
