  • Gray Media reached a deal that restored all its local television stations, including WTVM, to the DISH Network lineup effective immediately. This change helps viewers catch local news, weather and sports along with ABC programming.  WTVM
  • Local restaurants celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Week today as Deorio's Pizza on Auburn Avenue invites residents to nominate a favorite teacher to win two large pizzas during May (nomination details on Facebook) while Chick-fil-A on Bradley Park Drive randomly selects teachers for a special end-of-year celebration.  WTVM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dutch Bros confirmed plans to open its first Columbus coffee shop soon. The popular drive-thru chain chose Columbus for its debut outlet and details are expected to follow.  WTVM

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Sunday, crowds gathered at Liberty Theatre for the second annual Ma Fest to honor Columbus native Ma Rainey. The event celebrated her vibrant legacy in the community.  WTVM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Data from OysterLink shows that summer job searches peaked in March, and entry-level hospitality roles in Columbus were filled earlier than usual. Employers reported a strong Q1 cycle that contrasts with last year's delayed hiring, making roles like cashier and cook more competitive.  Columbus CEO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Education announced a partnership with Everfi to offer free digital personal finance courses to school districts during Financial Literacy Month. Nearly 600 schools have used these courses to help over 237,000 students learn skills like saving and budgeting.  Columbus CEO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eligible Georgia taxpayers have begun receiving surplus tax rebate checks, with single filers getting $250 (joint filers receiving $500 and heads-of-household $375) as the state implements HB 1000 signed on March 20. Only those filing in 2024 and 2025 with no tax debt qualify.  WTVM

  • Former WTVM reporter Sharifa Jackson has shared her journey of bringing her baby home from the NICU after a 24-week birth, highlighting both the challenges and the hope that guides her family (a reminder of small miracles in our community).  WTVM
