  • Leadership Columbus will host its 2025–2026 class project presentations on Friday, May 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Columbus Chamber Boardroom, where teams will share project outcomes that tackle community needs such as workforce readiness + youth engagement + education.  Columbus CEO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Columbus State University will honor 978 spring graduates on May 14 and 15 at the Lumpkin Center and University Hall, with Georgia State Senator Ed Harbison set to speak at the May 15 ceremony and graduates including first-generation students, athletes, and military-connected cadets.  Columbus CEO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Brian Kemp signed Rio’s Law that creates voluntary license plates for drivers with autism and other developmental disabilities and mandates updated law enforcement training to ensure calm traffic stops — the law goes into effect Jan. 1, 2027.  WTVM
  • Georgia cities have addressed housing challenges since the pandemic as GMA held a board meeting on May 1 in College Park and officials described projects such as rezoning, affordable units + grants programs. HEALTH NEWS

  • Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital opened its new intensive care unit (ICU) to expand critical treatment for patients. The upgrade supports the hospital’s effort to meet growing community health needs.  WTVM
  • Piedmont Healthcare held a ribbon-cutting yesterday for its new Piedmont Specialty Pharmacy South - located at the Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Campus - and it will open on June 1 to offer specialized medication management for patients in fields like cardiology and endocrinology.  Columbus CEO
