COMMUNITY NEWS

  • NAIA softball teams and local high school athletes will clean Columbus Riverwalk today from 9 to 11 a.m. at Woodruff Riverfront Park Splash Pad (organized by Keep Columbus Beautiful and Columbus Sports Council) ahead of the softball series starting Thursday at South Commons Sports Complex.  WTVM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Columbus State University’s ROTC ceremony on May 14, 11 new second lieutenants were commissioned — ten assigned to active-duty and one to Army Reserve duty. The cadets, including four distinguished honors recipients, are a mix of undergraduate and master’s graduates ready to lead.  Columbus State University
  • Growing Room Child Development Centers will celebrate the grand opening of its new early learning center at 1600 1st Avenue on Friday, May 22 at 9:00 a.m. The facility features modern classrooms, indoor play spaces, and an outdoor playground (including a splash pad) for children 6 weeks to 12 years old.  Columbus CEO
  • Miracle Riders arrived in New York as they continue a trek to raise funds and awareness for Columbus State University’s nursing program. The journey highlights CSU’s community impact and supports its local initiatives.  WTVM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Alabama Power crews will begin powerline work on Stadium Drive in Phenix City soon, which will close the road and require drivers to use alternate routes. Check your path if you are traveling nearby.  WTVM
  • Georgia will begin a seatbelt crackdown and speeding checks on Monday, May 25. The safety campaigns run through May 31 and include Memorial Day weekend, as authorities enforce driving laws to boost compliance on highways.  Columbus CEO

HEALTH NEWS

  • Piedmont Columbus Regional hosted its 13th annual Physician Recognition Awards today, honoring doctors for clinical care, leadership, and teaching. Dr. Gurkeerat Singh, Dr. Subhendu De, Dr. Jason Tsai, and Dr. Olutoyin Okanlawon received awards — 15 physicians were inducted into the Honored Society for their contributions.  Columbus CEO
