CRIME NEWS

  • Adrian Ransom, 18, was shot in the upper leg after leaving a graduation party on Ware Street on Tuesday night—he was taken to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center while LaGrange Police investigate the incident.  News 3
  • Officer Jonathan Robertson, 23, was charged with stalking and breaking into a home and has been placed on administrative leave while officials investigate the case.  WSB-TV
  • Columbus Police are seeking help finding 31-year-old Rameo Weaver, who was last seen near the 13th Street bridge on April 30 wearing a black shirt and blue jeans, and anyone with information should call 911 & contact CPD Special Victims Unit at 706-225-3449 or investigator Eric Schwind at 706-225-4339.  News 3

  • Backstage compiled a list of casting calls for movies and TV shows in Columbus—offering roles for actors of various ages in projects such as a scripted show and feature films. The list provides details on character types and average hourly pay to help local actors find opportunities.  WSB-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Miracle Riders ended their 21-day motorcycle ride that raised funds for Columbus State’s nursing program and its new NICU simulation lab, which will open this fall in Frank D. Brown Hall. The riders presented a ceremonial check for $227,950— part of over $425,000 raised through four rides since 2021.  Columbus State University

  • The Georgia Department of Driver Services warned Columbus drivers on May 28 about a text scam that falsely claims to be from the state motor vehicles office+ asking drivers to pay fake tickets to avoid license suspension; the agency stressed it never contacts drivers by text for money or personal information and urged recipients not to reply.  News 3
