- ➤ Families in Columbus will face a summer without Sun Bucks food benefits as Georgia opts out of providing the extra $120 per child, leaving local organizations like Feeding the Valley Food Bank to serve hot meals during the school break. WTVM
- ➤ Plummer Home is hosting its 4th annual crawfish boil this weekend & community members can enjoy freshly cooked crawfish in a festive outdoor setting. WTVM
- ➤ Cyclists gathered at Woodruff Park on Bay Avenue on Thursday evening to ride with Mayor Henderson as they followed a police-escorted route through Uptown and along the Dragonfly Trail Network; bike rentals were available nearby + riders received free T-shirts and swag before the ride. WTVM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Columbus State University recognized 1,080 undergraduates on the Spring 2026 President’s and Dean’s Lists — with 684 on the President’s List and 396 on the Dean’s List. The complete list is available on the university website. Columbus CEO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting Monday, June 1 through Thursday, June 4, two turning lanes on Whittlesey Boulevard near Chick-fil-A + Smokey Bones will be closed for irrigation repairs, causing minor traffic delays. WTVM
- ➤ Chambers County deputies will carry 16 AEDs plus 2 trauma kits funded by an opioid settlement grant to enhance rural emergency care in their patrol cars. The new equipment will help reach patients faster and improve survival until EMS arrives. WTVM
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Ellie Mental Health is hosting a walk for behavioral health specialists to support mental health care in Columbus. Organizers said more details on the route and start time will be shared soon (information is forthcoming). WTVM
- ➤ Columbus native Ben Hardy suffered a major stroke in January while preparing for church and is making steady progress in therapy. With partner Kaci English supporting him, the couple is raising funds for an electric wheelchair and urging residents to monitor risk factors like high blood pressure+atrial fibrillation. WTVM
