- ➤ Safe Kids Columbus and community partners will host a free summer safety event on Friday, June 20 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Bill and Olivia Amos Children’s Hospital where children will explore safety equipment and learn about water, vehicle, and fire safety — Tri-City Veterans will supply grilled hotdogs and hamburgers while supplies last. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On June 2, Columbus police conducted targeted stops and seized five guns—including two confirmed stolen—and 172 grams of marijuana while arresting six people on charges including illegal firearm possession. WTVM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Goodwill and the Muscogee County School District will host the annual JRTOC Cadet Leadership College and Career Fair on June 5th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at (2601 Cross Country Drive, Building B) for high school cadets from Georgia and Alabama. Part of a week-long leadership program, the fair will offer hands-on training (rappelling, land navigation, and drone and robotics exercises) and is closed to the public. WTVM

- ➤ Despite strong public outcry and legal threats over his 7—3 removal vote last week, the Columbus council did not address City Manager Hugley’s firing at Tuesday's meeting. Hugley’s attorney requested a hearing while acting city manager Lisa Goodwin filled the role amid calls from residents for greater transparency. WTVM
