COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office and Columbus Fire and EMS are hosting a cook-off at Sam’s Club parking lot from 11:00 a.m.—4:00 p.m. to raise funds for CURE Childhood Cancer, and the event will continue tomorrow with extra vehicles on display.  News 3

  • A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held this morning to mark the opening of Goodwill Kids— a new store that specializes in children's items in Columbus.  WTVM

CRIME NEWS

  • Columbus Police are searching for runaway teen Carmen Gilmore, 16, who was last seen on June 3 along Engineer Dr. wearing unknown clothes and black Crocs — she is 5'5" tall and weighs 105 pounds — and urge anyone with information to call 911.  WTVM
  • Columbus police are searching for 13-year-old Jeremiah Simmons, last seen on June 2 at 11 p.m. in the 700 block of Andrea Drive (4 ft 9 in tall, black hair, brown eyes) and ask anyone with information to call 911.  WTVM
  • The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested two Columbus men on June 5—Truth Anderson and Phillip Quinn—charging them with 14 sexual exploitation of children offenses after executing search warrants in East and North Columbus; authorities say the investigation continues and more charges may be pending.  News 3
  • Columbus Police are asking for help finding 15 year old Omarion Davis who was last seen in the 3400 block of 8th Avenue on June 2—he is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 135 pounds.  News 3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Chambers County School Board approved a new dress code on Wednesday to boost student achievement at school, on buses, and at school events—students must follow specific guidelines for shirts, pants, shoes, and outerwear while exemptions will be allowed with documentation—the rules now apply for the 2025-2026 school year.  News 3
