Kroger announced Monday, June 30th that it will close 60 stores over the next 18 months — including several in Georgia — a plan that could affect local shoppers.

Columbus residents expressed concerns over a recent increase in trash bills—many worry that rising costs may strain household budgets.

Officials from the Tax Assessors and Tax Commissioner’s offices, including Suzanne Widenhouse and David Britt, warned Columbus residents to be alert to mail that looks like government documents but asks for fee payments for free services.

They said the letters come from third-party companies not connected with the offices—residents should call to check and must file appeals by close of business July 3.
