COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Uptown Columbus is hosting Christmas in July at Market Days on Broadway from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on July 12 to offer families a festive experience and support local vendors—featuring Santa Claus and a snow machine for kids.  News 3
  • The Columbus airport runway will close temporarily in August for repairs—officials said the work aims to keep air travel safe and may cause delays in flight schedules.  WTVM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Navy Federal Credit Union will open a new branch on July 21 at Cross Country Plaza on Macon Road—located between Appliances 4 Less and The UPS Store—that will offer lobby services and two walk-up ATMs. The branch will operate Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  WTVM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Columbus State University's business and theatre programs received reaccreditation yesterday, confirming that their coursework, fieldwork, and faculty meet strict quality standards. The business program earned AACSB approval while the theatre program was fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theater + both successes support the university's strong academic reputation.  Columbus State University
  • Columbus parents and students must request bus transportation from the Muscogee County School District by July 14 to secure a bus assignment for the school year from 2025 to 2026 & those who register on time will receive bus passes during verification week or as route updates are made.  News 3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a Columbus City Council meeting on Tuesday morning, Councilor Glenn Davis challenged the decision to pay over $42,000 in legal fees for a city employee, arguing the amount was excessive and suggesting a formal bar complaint—while Mayor Skip Henderson and city attorney Clifton Fay defended the payment based on legal advice. The council later decided to consult with local lawyers on the matter.  News 3

  • Larry K. Florence died at 49 after battling cancer; the Phenix City native and former Nebraska basketball star also coached locally and was known for his passion for the game.  WTVM
