CRIME NEWS

  • A 17-year-old suspect, Zion Horton, appeared in court on July 9 for the 2024 murder of Manchester High School football star Daryus Bryant and faces charges including murder, three counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a crime near Macon Road and Lakeshore Drive + he was denied bond as his case moved to superior court.  News 3
  • Columbus PD is searching for 18 year old Jaquavion Daise (wanted on aggravated battery charges) after a hit and run on May 28 at 1:17 p.m. in the 400 block of 1st Avenue left a bicyclist severely injured (it is his second such case).  News 3

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Columbus State University confirmed reaccreditation for its business and theatre programs through rigorous reviews from national agencies—this means the courses, fieldwork, and internships meet high quality standards. Two other programs will be notified about their reaccreditation status this fall.  Columbus CEO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clerk Danielle F. Forte explained the requirements to become a notary public during a WRBL interview on Wednesday and announced free training will begin Friday at 10 a.m. at the Citizens Service Center, 3111 Citizen Way—attendees must register on a first come, first serve basis.  News 3
  • U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff is working with both parties to protect rural hospitals from cyber threats by cosponsoring a bipartisan bill that will improve training for staff—this follows a cyber attack on Columbus's Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital and similar incidents in other parts of Georgia.  News 3

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday's MLB All-Star pregame in Atlanta, hip-hop stars Jermaine Dupri and Ludacris will introduce the All-Stars with a hometown tribute — country singer Kane Brown will honor Ray Charles while the Zac Brown Band and Lauren Spencer Smith perform the national anthems; the event will air live on FOX at 7:00 p.m.  News 3
