COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Feeding the Valley is launching its Community Hunger Relief Fund to support local families after federal cuts reduced SNAP and Medicaid benefits from the Big Beautiful Bill. The nonprofit will raise $500,000 to boost food supplies and meal delivery services across its 18-county service area—this comes as demand for food assistance remains 35% higher than before 2020.  WTVM
  • Piedmont Columbus Regional named community member Zion Reed as its First Friday Hero for August after he quickly stopped a woman’s car on Highway 27 near the Bryant Lake subdivision when she experienced a seizure. His brave actions—dashing to halt the moving vehicle before a dump truck arrived—helped prevent a potentially deadly accident and allowed first responders to treat her before she was taken to the hospital.  Columbus CEO
