CRIME NEWS

  • Columbus Police are seeking help to locate 16-year-old Timothy Stewart Jr. who was last seen on August 7 near the 6000 block of Schatulga Road—he is 6 feet tall, weighs 180 pounds, and has brown hair and blue eyes.  WTVM
  • Secret Service & USDA are running a statewide operation in Georgia that targets card-skimming schemes linked to organized crime.  Columbus CEO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Columbus State University history students are getting paid internships at military museums this summer thanks to donor support and local partnerships. Junior Andy Knap is working at Fort Benning (restoring a World War II era Sherman tank) while two other students gain similar experience at the National Infantry Museum.  Columbus CEO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On August 20 the Georgia Chamber of Commerce will hold its 2025 Congressional Luncheon at Columbus Convention and Trade Center where top state politicians including Sen. Jon Ossoff, Congressman Mike Collins, Rep. Sanford Bishop, Rep. Austin Scott and Rep. Buddy Carter are scheduled to attend. The event will also announce the winner of the 'Coolest Thing Made in Georgia' competition—whose finalists include the Midnight EVTOL from Archer Aviation and the Lockheed C-130J Super Hercules—and the inaugural winners of the Blanchard Leadership Award and Corporate Citizen Award.  News 3
  • Georgia’s Department of Early Care and Learning has awarded $1.3M in 15 Community Impact Grants to groups including Columbus Technical College to fight child care, literacy, and food support challenges over the next two years. The grants will launch programs that boost early learning and offer job training for parents + address critical local needs.  WSB-TV
