CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Tracy Lynn White, 48, was arrested on August 14 in Lee County and charged with shooting her 47-year-old husband on August 11 at 196 Chipley Mountville Road in Troup County (he is in critical condition at an Atlanta-area hospital) pending extradition to Troup County Jail. WTVM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Columbus State University’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center has been awarded a $300,000 NASA grant to upgrade WestRock Observatory equipment—allowing students to study black holes and track dangerous asteroids. The two-year grant will also support research internships and software improvements to boost hands-on learning in space science. Columbus CEO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson said the city plans to replace the aging Muscogee County Jail with a new facility that will hold 1,600 inmates and could cost up to $478 million—funding will come from bonds and possible grants. The council reviewed four potential sites and will finalize plans as the project moves forward. News 3
