- ➤ Skechers will open its first Columbus-area store at Columbus Park Crossing in early 2026—taking over the former Conn’s HomePlus location on Whittlesey Boulevard. The space will be renovated to welcome customers with a wide selection of shoes, clothing, and accessories. WTVM
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police identified 66-year-old Edwin Grier as the homicide victim after his body was found Tuesday near Macon Road in Columbus—officials said he suffered blunt force trauma to the head and his autopsy is pending. WTVM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A national report from U.S. News & World Report has ranked Columbus High as the 2nd best school in Georgia, demonstrating the school's strong academic performance. WTVM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Former city manager Isaiah Hugley filed a formal discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against the Columbus Consolidated Government—he alleges his termination broke federal and state laws including Title VII. His attorney said the EEOC will complete its probe in 180 days and Hugley is running for mayor. WTVM
- ➤ Federal regulators are updating rules so that 911 calls can include texts, photos, video and location data while proposals discuss federal funding to support these changes. Georgia passed House Bill 423 on July 1, which requires all new systems to use NG911 and allocates $5.7 million for the upgrade, and GECA will lead the rollout (to improve response times).
