GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Georgia House committee studied legalizing sports betting and casino gaming on Monday after hearing testimony from the head of the PGA Tour’s gaming division and former Rep. Jason Saine as stakeholders shared the economic benefits and potential casino sites, including one in Columbus — the committee will meet two more times before reporting its findings to the General Assembly.  Columbus CEO
  • Councilor Byron Hickey, who was appointed to fill District 1 after the late Pops Barnes, will announce today at 11:00 a.m. his run for mayor after filing his intention with the elections office—joining District 7 Councilor Joanne Cogle, former city manager Isaiah Hugley, and other candidates as the crowded race heads toward the May 19 election.  News 3
