- ➤ Seventeen new U.S. citizens from 13 countries took the citizenship oath Tuesday morning at the federal courthouse in downtown Columbus — Magistrate Judge Amelia Helmick presided as friends and family looked on. University music educator Serena Scibelli from Italy said she now feels fully part of the Columbus community and plans to keep her dual citizenship while she continues to teach violin. News 3

- ➤ Columbus police arrested 20-year-old Antoine Finch after a shooting near MLK Blvd on Friday that left a 17-year-old dead—he is charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct and is set to appear in court Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. News 3
- ➤ The Columbus Police Department is searching for 16 year old Amir Powell who was last seen on the 1300 block of Forest Avenue on August 28, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.—he is described as 5 ft 7 in tall and 130 lbs with black hair, brown eyes and wearing black joggers and camouflage HEYDUDE shoes. WTVM
- ➤ Police rescued a baby found alive in a dumpster at a Columbus motel—infant was taken to a nearby hospital. WSB-TV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The exhibition opened yesterday at the Bo Bartlett Center and shows top work from Southern visual artists. A public reception will be held on Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. and an artist talk is set for Oct. 2 at 5 p.m.—admission is free and the exhibit runs Tue-Sat until Dec. 6. Columbus State University
- ➤ The Walker-Peters-Langdon House, Columbus’ oldest home built in 1828, nears its 200-year mark—now serving as a museum on Broadway that preserves historic items like the wedding of the waters and period furniture. Historic Columbus acquired the property in 1967 from the Langdon family and offers tours to share its rich heritage. WTVM

- ➤ Columbus State University will start a year-long lecture series on Sept. 11—marking the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War’s end in 1975—to bring together scholars, veterans and policymakers.
