- ➤ The Fountain City Classic launched the ‘Close the Gap’ campaign on August 28 to raise $35,000—money to create a Cares Fund that will help college students with unexpected bills and boost high school band programs before its 35th annual game on November 8. WTVM
- ➤ A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Oct. 7 at 1851 South Lumpkin Road to open the new Goodwill Opportunity Center in South Columbus—designed to offer free job training, education resources, career coaching, and employment services. Columbus City Council officials and Goodwill Senior Leadership will speak and guide facility tours with light refreshments. WTVM

- ➤ Columbus State University received a $100,000 grant from the Ruth Arts Foundation to fund artist residencies at Pasaquan—its creative site honoring Eddie Owens Martin's vision. The place will soon welcome New York-based artist Azikiwe Mohammed who will work with art students to explore innovative art practices. Columbus CEO

- ➤ Six honorees with ties to Columbus State were recognized in Columbus & the Valley's (5 Under 40, Rising Stars) editions for their leadership and community service. The group includes an undergraduate and alumni who credit early campus experiences with opening career doors and strengthening community ties. Columbus State University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Columbus mayoral race expands as Jonathan Jones and Dr. Jaketra Bryant filed their Declarations of Intent—while candidate Kia Legette dropped out to run for governor. Bryant will hold her campaign kickoff event Wednesday evening—bringing the total field to seven with the election set for May 19 and a qualifying period starting March 2. News 3

- ➤ Mayor’s Commission on Health will host a Health Resource Fair on October 4 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Victory Mission, 3448 North Lumpkin Road & local healthcare organizations will offer free medical screenings, mammograms, educational materials, vaccines and STD testing at minimal cost.
