COMMUNITY NEWS

  • James Sneed Sr.—a World War II veteran—turned 103 on September 15th as friends and family gathered at the D.A. Turner YMCA to celebrate his milestone. He works out and attends fitness classes at the Y five days a week and continues to inspire everyone with his sharp memory.  News 3

ECONOMY NEWS

  • WTVM is hosting a fall job fair on Sept. 25 at Columbus State University’s Cunningham Center on Gentian Boulevard from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST—attendees can network with top employers from West Georgia and East Alabama at this free event with complimentary parking.  WTVM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Columbus Chamber of Commerce is on day two of a hands-on career exploration—exposing about 2,200 8th-grade and high school students to different career pathways.  WTVM
  • Aglow Apothecary and Healing Haven on Massee Lane launched the Wonder Haven Homeschooling Collective to bring homeschooled kids from first to fifth grade together for hands-on learning and creative exploration. The Tuesday classes feature activities like decoding invisible ink messages—helping kids build friendships and follow their own learning paths.  News 3

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced he will run for governor, saying his business experience and job-creation record make him ready to serve the state. He was interviewed exclusively by Channel 2's Mark Winne (highlighting his plans to boost job growth) and joins a field with Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and Attorney General Chris Carr.  WSB-TV
  • A pop-up passports event will be held at the Columbus Consolidated Government building — it is designed to speed up the passport process for residents.  WTVM
  • The U.S. Army released a new directive on grooming, appearance and uniform standards after a review of military policies. Soldiers will be required to follow the updated rules within 30 days—commanders will enforce the guidelines.  WTVM

HEALTH NEWS

  • With childhood obesity on the rise, Piedmont Columbus Regional is expanding its pediatric bariatrics program—aiming to give kids better access to weight management care now and in the future. The program will offer more treatment options as the need grows.  WTVM
  • A Columbus teen turned her Girl Scout Gold Award project into a community drive to fight fentanyl overdoses—partnering with schools, churches and local leaders for prevention. Hardaway High School senior Kaylah Green presented her project on Monday night and will host a fentanyl awareness event at Carver High School on October 25.  News 3
  • A nasal spray called Neffy has been approved for pediatric use and could help kids who fear needles, according to clinical pharmacist Ryan Cromer from Piedmont Columbus Midtown—the spray delivers epinephrine quickly by releasing a mist into the nostril, and caregivers are advised to contact their primary provider for a prescription and act fast during an allergic reaction.  News 3
