COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WRBL News 3 is hosting its pet donation drive Cause for Paws on Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 at the Pet Supermarket at 3201 Macon Road from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.—the drive aims to help pets in need in the Chattahoochee Valley.  News 3
  • Turning Point USA's chapter at Columbus State University will host a vigil—remembering founder Charlie Kirk—to honor his legacy at the campus.  WTVM

  • WTVM will host its Fall Job Fair next week in Columbus for local job seekers and employers—organizers plan to match candidates with available openings.  Columbus CEO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Columbus Fire and EMS Department put a new $1.1 million ladder truck into service at Station 10 (on Benning Road) Thursday morning. The truck took about three years to order and will help firefighters respond to emergencies.  News 3
  • Former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan visited Columbus today to campaign for mayor as he met local voters—he spent his day visiting key neighborhoods in the city.  WTVM

HEALTH NEWS

  • New Horizons Behavioral Health will host its annual Recovery on the River event on Sept 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Woodruff Riverfront Park to celebrate National Recovery Month—this free event is the final stop on the Georgia Recovers Bus Tour and will offer the first 200 guests a free t-shirt and $10 food truck voucher.  News 3
  • Mercy Med held a grand opening for its new wellness center in Columbus — the center is set to provide a range of health services to local residents.  WTVM
  • The Columbus Fire and EMS Department is mourning after two firefighters died by suicide—one on July 10 and the other on Sept. 3—and the department is working with local churches and mental health professionals to expand support resources for first responders. Columbus city leaders are also exploring additional measures to help prevent future tragedies.  News 3
