ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local seniors risk losing their homes after facing unexpected tax increases that add to their financial struggles. Officials have not yet announced any plans to change the tax assessments.  WSB-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kendrick High School mourns the loss of longtime math teacher Harrold Hines+ who taught for 24 years and earned honors like Teacher of the Year while his leadership touched many lives as the school asks for thoughts and prayers for his family and friends.  WTVM
  • On September 18, the Columbus State University Alumni Association honored 13 alumni for outstanding service and contributions to the university and community—recognizing achievements in leadership, volunteerism, and professional excellence. The awards, including the Thomas Y. Whitley Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Frank D. Brown Achievement & Leadership Excellence Award, celebrated a long history of commitment from graduates across various fields.  Columbus State University

HEALTH NEWS

  • A metro instructor in Columbus plans to lead a group exercise session to break the record for the most senior citizens working out at the same time. He will invite local seniors to join the event and aims to set a new record.  WSB-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Columbus State University will mark its 10th Girls In The Game Luncheon on Sept 25 at 11:30 a.m. at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center, where honorees from eight women’s NCAA sports will be recognized with scholarships & Olympic medalist DeeDee Trotter will speak and host a track clinic after the event.  Columbus State University
  • The Columbus River Dragons are launching the River Dragons Broadcast Network to stream all 56 games live and free on Sporfie, YouTube Live, and Facebook Live this season—starting with the Chick-fil-A Fans’ Choice Game on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. The regular season opener will be on Oct. 10 when Columbus visits the Pee-Dee IceCats.  WTVM
