- ➤ The Columbus Police Department will host Operation Cops—Treats, a free and family-friendly Halloween celebration on Oct. 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the west parking lot of the Public Safety Building at 510 E. 10th Street where children must be accompanied by an adult. WTVM
- ➤ Hundreds of people gathered at Woodruff Riverfront Park last Tuesday for Recovery on the River—an event hosted by New Horizons Behavioral Health that served as the final stop of the Georgia Recovers Bus Tour. The celebration featured live music, food trucks, resource booths, free t-shirts and food vouchers for the first 200 attendees while local officials shared personal recovery stories and demonstrated overdose response techniques. - ➤ Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center is hosting its free Family Fun Day on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—marking its 30th anniversary—with family activities, food and entertainment provided by staff, Columbus State University students and Columbus Water Works. - ➤ The Columbus Symphony Orchestra will present 'The King of Instruments' at Legacy Hall in RiverCenter on October 11 at 7:30 p.m., featuring works by Strauss, Barber, and Saint-Saëns with organist Christopher Houlihan. An open dress rehearsal starts at 12:30 p.m. and a pre-concert talk begins at 6:30 p.m. in Studio Theatre—ticket prices range from 23 to 60 dollars. Columbus CEO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Officials with the Muscogee County School District announced that the SAT scores for the Class of 2025 exceeded state and national averages in reading, writing and math + the scores were released by the Georgia Department of Education. Superintendent Dr. David F. Lewis said the results show the hard work of students, teachers and families + the achievement marks growing progress in the district's education system. News 3
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Columbus officials announced that parts of the Riverwalk will have intermittent closures during the week of Oct. 6—railroad crews will repair a bridge near the elevated railroad. Cyclists and pedestrians are told to use caution and expect delays during the work. News 3
- ➤ The Georgia Department of Community Supervision honored 61 Day Reporting Centers graduates in Albany, Columbus, and Lawrenceville during National Recovery Month — marking a milestone in recovery and accountability. Felicia Jones said the Columbus center provided structured support that helped participants rebuild their lives. WTVM
- ➤ Today, 4th Avenue between North Railroad Street and 19th Street in Phenix City is closed for utility work—officials have set up a detour and warn drivers of delays as work continues with no set completion date. WTVM
- ➤ Road crews are repaving the connector and areas in Midtown and Downtown today, causing delays for drivers who need to plan extra travel time. WSB-TV
