- ➤ Uptown Columbus Inc will host its inaugural Halloween Gala Fundraiser to raise money for free events, and CEO Steve Morse said further details on the event are forthcoming. WTVM
- ➤ Fort Benning’s Morale, Wellness and Recreation division will host Oktoberfest from Oct. 17 to Oct. 19 amid the government shutdown. The free event at Uchee Creek Campground in Fort Mitchell, Alabama will feature live music, family activities, German food and beer with a keg tapping ceremony starting at 6:00 p.m. ET on Friday—more than 30 vendors will attend. - ➤ Thai and Thai Restaurant in Columbus is offering a 15% discount on all dine-in and take-out orders until Oct. 31 in response to the government shutdown. The owner—wishing to support federal and local workers—applied the discount to every item on the menu. News 3

- ➤ After the Sept. 5 shooting that killed 18-year-old Kalielah Davis, restaurant owner Michael Harrell reported a 20—25% drop in weekend sales at 11th and Bay as police patrols increased downtown to keep the area safe. News 3

- ➤ Wildlife officials in Columbus say deer are moving into roadways as rut season overlaps with hunting season — prompting drivers to slow down and hunters to wear orange and use safety harnesses to stay safe. News 3

- ➤ Columbus Water Works will host an in-person town hall and meet and greet today at the Columbus Tech Library at 928 Manchester Expressway from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. — Community members can meet the team, learn plans to keep local waterways clean, review upcoming water and sewage rates and hear the winners of the middle school essay contest during a live Q&A session. - ➤ Piedmont Columbus Regional graduated 54 residents from its Nurse, Family Medicine, and Pharmacy residency programs this summer (marking the 50th Family Medicine class) and opened its first Piedmont QuickCare clinic at the Whittlesey Boulevard Walmart at Columbus Park Crossing, while also receiving four awards for stroke and diabetes care.
