COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Street Food Saturday and River Oak Boutique host the Taste of Fall Food Truck Festival—a free event scheduled for November 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1204 1st Avenue in Uptown Columbus, featuring over 20 vendors offering a range of cuisines, sweet treats, and fall-inspired adult drinks.  WTVM
  • The Muscogee County Sheriff Office is running Operation Good Samaritan, a food drive helping families in the Chattahoochee Valley who are struggling because of delayed funding, with donations accepted until November 21. Phase one distribution will occur on November 16 at 6:30 p.m.—the office is collecting dry goods, canned items, toiletries and other necessities to serve between 200 and 225 families.  News 3

  • Rocking'1000 founder Fabio Zaffagnini urged local musicians to join the upcoming event as he outlined plans to boost local music and bring fresh energy to the stage—he expects the event to draw diverse talent.  WTVM

  • The University of Georgia will host its 2026 Columbus Economic Outlook at the Cunningham Conference Center at Columbus State University on Jan. 27 with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. and programming starting at noon.  Columbus CEO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Morehouse College Director of Admissions Michael D. Gumm spoke to Shaw High School’s 11th- and 12th-grade young men about overcoming barriers like fear, procrastination, and negative self-talk. His personal stories and call to action inspired the students to change their mindset and take control of their future—boosting their academic focus.  WTVM
  • The Lee County Board of Education voted Monday to restructure Smiths Station’s four elementary schools by grade level, effective at the start of the 2026 school year, in response to a decade-long decline in enrollment & to balance class sizes. Under the new plan, pre-K, kindergarten and first grade, second and third grade, and fourth and fifth grade students will attend separate schools.  WTVM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Human Services will provide full SNAP benefits for November following a signed federal funding package — recipients who received partial benefits will receive the remainder by Tuesday, November 18, while others get benefits on the normal schedule.  News 3

  • St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital broke ground Tuesday morning on its 2026 Dream Home in Columbus. The custom ranch-style home in Creekrise subdivision off River Road will be built by local construction company Bee Smart and giveaway tickets priced at $100 will help ensure families do not receive bills for treatment, travel, housing or food.  News 3
  • The Columbus Metro Black Nurses Association previewed an upcoming event that will offer local residents insights on health topics and community support — more details on speakers and the agenda will be released as the event approaches.  WTVM
