BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Columbus Airport reopened today with a new concrete runway after a four-month closure—restoring scheduled air service. Columbus CEO
- ➤ Pinnacle Financial Partners and Synovus Financial received federal regulatory approval for their planned merger after shareholders approved the deal on Nov. 6. The banks will complete the merger on Jan. 1 pending final conditions — clients will see little change until then. Columbus CEO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Georgia Department of Education announced its 2026 legislative priorities today to guide State School Superintendent Richard Woods in talks with lawmakers. The plan calls for an extra $10,000 in raises for teachers and staff, an expanded salary schedule for teachers, and a competitive schedule for classified personnel + restored funding for leadership degree compensation. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The state awarded $24.4 million to build 26 electric vehicle charging sites along highways and interstates; each site will have four fast chargers available for continuous use. Gov. Brian Kemp said the project—funded by a public-private partnership covering up to 80% of costs from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act—will help boost Georgia’s infrastructure.
